Summary: Theremotesensornetworksareincreasinglyusedforcollectingvariousdatafromlargeareawherepoweringthesensorsandprocessors(usedforwirelesslytransmittingdata&receivingcommands)withbatteriesposeproblematic.Advanceddevelopmentisongoingtomonitorthepassengercabinareaofcommercialaircraftswithhundredsofsensors.Inmanydefenseapplicationsalsotheyneedalargearea,(manysquaremiles)coveragewithsensornetworks.Furthertocollectvariousclimaticdatafromthesoilofalargefarmmanysensornetworkswiththousandsofsensorsarenecessaryagainfacingthesamepoweringproblem.Recentlyfar-fieldRFenergytransferisattemptedtokeepthedronesafloatforalongerperiod.Hencethereisaneedforhighefficiencyfar-fieldRFenergyharvestingsystem.
ARectennawhichisarectifyingantennaandanRFdiodeareusedtoconvertambientelectromagneticenergyintoDCcurrentinthepast.ThealternatingcurrentfromtheantennawiththeRFdiodeprovidesDCcurrent.Inordertoincreasetheconversionefficiency,designoptimizationdonewithanOmni-directionalPhasedArrayantennaandanextremelylowturn-onvoltagetwoquantumtunnelRFdiodes.Wewilldiscussthecircuitoptimizationwiththeabovecomponentstorealizeconversionefficiencyover80%andamethodtoimprovethevoltage.Thesystemconsistsofaboveenergyconversioncomponentsalongwithcontrollerprocessortoaiddirectionalapplicationtothephasedarraytoreceivemaximumenergy,totransmitdata,toreceivecommandsandtooptimallychargeare-chargeablebatteryorahighpowercapacitor.
